Example itinerary – Artful Hadeland
Our art and design experiences are not one fixed route but a toolbox of creative encounters that can be combined and tailored. For each group, we design a curated programme built around art, glass and design, from studio visits and gallery tours to encounters with textile craftsmanship and architectural heritage. Combine contemporary expressions with historic craftsmanship for an inspiring journey through Hadeland’s artistic landscape.
These experiences can be arranged as day trips or as longer stays, depending on the group’s wishes and interests. The sample below illustrates a four-day itinerary with a day-by-day programme, but both content and duration can, of course, be adapted.
Guests can choose from a variety of memorable accommodation options, ranging from the indulgent comfort of Lily Country Club and the sophisticated atmosphere of Sanner Hotel to the historic charm of Granavolden Hotel & Guesthouse and the welcoming, local touch of Hotell Hadeland. Those seeking a more rural experience can stay at Helgaker Gård, a charming farm hotel set in Hadeland’s open cultural landscape, or relax in a cosy forest cabin at Åstjern
Day 1 – Arrival and local surroundings
Arrive in Hadeland and check in at your hotel. Take a relaxed stroll in the nearby area, get a feel for the landscape. In the evening you gather for a cosy dinner and a short introduction to the program for the coming days.
Day 2 – Kistefos Sculpture Park and Hadeland Glassverk
After breakfast you travel to Kistefos Sculpture Park, one of Europe’s most exciting sculpture parks for contemporary art. From early May to mid-October, you can visit the indoor galleries and The Twist, combining architecture, art and industrial history with river views. Outside the main season you explore the outdoor sculpture park on a quiet walk, with a different light and atmosphere and views of the frozen or flowing river.
In the afternoon you continue to Hadeland Glassverk, a historic riverside village of glass, galleries, design shops and cafés built around one of Norway’s oldest glassworks. Here you can watch glassblowers at work, visit design stores and exhibitions, and enjoy a warm drink by the river. You round off the day with a shared meal on site or back at the hotel.
Day 3 – Circular fashion, weaving and art at Granavollen
Today you dive deeper into Hadeland’s craft and design scene. At Recouture, you explore circular fashion and see how old textiles are transformed into new favourites, with the option of a short talk or demonstration about upcycling and slow fashion. The journey then continues to Grinakervev, where fine damask and traditional Norwegian garments are created on the looms; here you can join a guided tour, feel the textiles and meet the people behind the fabrics and browse the on-site shop.
In the afternoon you visit Glasslåven Art Centre at Granavollen, a converted barn that now houses contemporary art exhibitions and studios. You have time to explore the exhibition and enjoy the historic atmosphere of the Granavollen plateau before ending the day with dinner in the area or back at your hotel.
Day 4 – Slow morning and departure
Enjoy a slow breakfast and perhaps a last short walk or visit to nearby viewpoints or shops before your journey home or onwards travel.
Optional regenerative elements
- Citizen science on walks: use a simple app during walks in sculpture parks, village streets or historic sites to register plants, birds or cultural heritage, contributing real data to local nature and culture management.
- Circular fashion and textiles in practice: learn how upcycling, repair and long-lasting fabrics reduce waste and support local craft through visits and talks at Recouture and Grinakervev.
