You are warmly invited to explore Norway’s nature and culture with an excursion to Kistefos. Here you'll find world-class architecture, industrial history, art exhibitions, and an impressive sculpture park with 55 sculptures in scenic surroundings. The art gallery The Twist, is a gallery, a bridge and a sculpture all in one, and has won several awards for its cutting edge design. In 2020, Kistefos was named a “must-see cultural destination” by the New York Times.

A visit to Kistefos Museum offers a unique blend of art, architecture, and nature. Explore the iconic Twist gallery spanning the river, enjoy world-class contemporary art, and stroll through the beautiful sculpture park surrounded by forest and water. A perfect cultural escape just outside Oslo.

Located on the grounds of a former wood pulp mill, Kistefos is much more than a traditional museum; It’s an immersive experience that invites you to explore, interact and be inspired. The highlight for many is The Twist, an architectural marvel that serves as both a bridge and an art gallery, cited as a «must-see» cultural destination by the New York Times, Bloomberg and The Telegraph, amongst others. 

Outdoors, the Sculpture Park is a true adventure. Over 50 sculptures by renowned artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Anish Kapoor and Tony Cragg are scattered throughout the park, inviting you to wander, discover, and engage with art in unexpected ways. Each piece interacts beautifully with the natural surroundings, making every visit unique.

The preserved pulp mill and historical exhibitions give a glimpse into the site’s fascinating past. Whether you’re an art lover, history buff or simply seeking a memorable day out, Kistefos promises a rich, inspiring experience in a breathtaking setting.

WHAT TO WEAR
Sturdy, comfortable footwear is recommended for walking on uneven or possibly wet ground. Bring a waterproof jacket (and optionally waterproof pants) in case of rain, and consider a hat, scarf and light gloves if it feels chilly.
